AW18: Stand Out Trends To Look For Next Season

So it looks like the sun has disappeared for a little while at least…but all this overcast clouds and drizzle is doing one thing – making us very excited for winter and all the new AW18 trends.

We love a bit of sunshine and long nights but this heatwave has made us miss snuggly jumpers and oversized jackets. Because lets face it, winter fashion is better than summer. From layering to duvet style puffa jackets, it feels like you never left your bed and you look good for it!

So here’s looking to Autumn 2018, and we’ve put together our top trends to look out for in the coming season.

Checks

This look isn’t going anywhere fast. It’s been about since last season, but this year it’s bigger and bolder than ever.

We’re talking bright and brash colours, clashing tartans and tones. Very punky school prep and old school Vivienne Westwood vibes.

Animal Print

So we know that leopard print has been taking over our lives and our wardrobes, but it doesn’t stop there.

We’re talking snake print, zebra print and tiger print to name a few. Clash the prints together, opt for unconventional but rich colours like royal purple and a forest green for an updated seasonal view on this trend.

The Midi Skirt

Hailing from the 80s nostalgia our wardrobes have been feeling the effects of for a few months now, the midi skirt is back – in particular the pencil.

So prepare for the characteristic pencil skirt waddle if you want to go up any stairs or walk faster than a snails pace. But it’s worth it.

Denim midis are going to be all over the transitional wardrobes, think utility with buttons, belts and hardware adorning this look.

If you’re not so keen on denim, contrast stitching and of course the pleated midi are both big news for this look.

The Trench

Along with checks, this style is being named the Balmoral chic. Think the Queen when it rains over Christmas.

Go for a soft leather look or the classic camel colour in a double-breasted style.

Extreme Layering

We mean extreme. Layering is always a favourite transitional look, it’s practical for peeling off layers when you’re too warm and it looks great with minimal effort.

This year, layering is going big. We’re talking puffa jacket over cardigan over denim jacket plus scarves. Go for different textures and bright colours – because this season it’s all about being bold with your style choices.

Headscarves

Headwear is always a great Autumnal look, but hats that can easily get caught in the wind are a little last year.

Bad hair day? Not an issue this season, headscarves are big news for this fashion calendar.

Scarf prints are popping up across the catwalk, but opt for a heck or chain print silk scarf to tie around your head (a la Balmoral chic once again) and you’ll quickly update any transitional look you go for this Fall.
